  • A Ford Mondeo hybrid returned 123.77mpg on the 80-mile route at the Layer Marney Cup run in Essex.

    The Mondeo averaged almost 55mpg more than the second-placed hybrid whilst being driven by rally driver-turned-hypermiler, Andy Dawson, and co-driver John Chillman.

    Powered by a 140PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the powertrain is assisted by the equivalent of 47PS from the hybrid’s lithium ion battery to produce 187PS total.
